Bio

John Desilets has been composing since he was a child.  The fascination began with a little game called Mario Paint.  While extremely limiting, Mario Paint instilled in John, the love of composition.  A member of chorus since middle school, he didn't receive his first official composition training until his AP Music Theory class, his senior year of high school.  Under the tutelage of Mr. Ross Sward (Winner of the Milken Family Foundation Award) his love of composition grew, as did his aptitude.  His Music Theory book came with a Finale 2002, which John used to compose for the next three years. In addition to the short voice leading assignments he was given to write, he spent much of his free time writing experimental video game music.  His final project was actually an arranged version of the Kokiri Forest Theme, from The Legend of Zelda:  Ocarina of Time, with an original middle and ending section.

John then went on to major in Music Composition at Franklin Pierce University.  Under the instruction of Mr. David Brandes, John won multiple awards for Musical Excellence, wrote music for the school's Contemporary Music Ensemble (Defenestration) and served as the Music Theory Tutor.  John was also a member of every musical ensemble he could join, including Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Contemporary Music Ensemble, Renaissance Music Ensemble, Choral Union, and University Singers.  In addition to this, John completed his two move projects while attending classes full time at Franklin Pierce.  John recently graduated Franklin Pierce University Summa Cumme Laude, with High Honors in Music.

John plans on moving to Los Angeles, California in the Fall of '08, to pursue a musical career.  Anything involving music would be a dream come true, whether it be movies, video games, television, or even radio jingles.  Anyone interested in having John write music for them can find his information on the Contact Page.

A few words from John:

My whole life, I have been awed by the effect music can have on people. That the simple organization of notes on a staff can evoke such emotion has never failed to amaze me. As a child (and to be honest...still) I played Chrono Trigger, and was moved, almost to the point of tears, by Yasunori Mitsuda's beautiful melodies. I played every Final Fantasy game, even if just to hear Nobuo Uematsu's brilliant compositions. I rewatched the scene of Darth Vader walking down the hallway in A New Hope countless times, just to figure out the chord structures of the Imperial March. It is my goal in life, to be able to affect even one person with my music, in the way that I was affected by so many other peoples' music.

I could never have aspired to what I am today without the love and support of my wonderful girlfriend
Sarah, my family, and all of my friends.  Thank you all.
